Champions Online is separated into 6 distinct Locations, each with their own map. The location maps are completely open and moving from one point to another within a location requires no loading (as loading only occurs when switching between locations or entering an instance). Location maps are shared with everyone else playing Champions Online, but each of the six locations have a player limit. The limits are in place to prevent lag and rubberbanding. Once a limit has been reached, a new map instance is spawned.
In addition to the maps for the major locations, there are also instanced maps. These maps can be accessed the same way location maps can be.
Accessing the Map
The in game map can be accessed at any time by pressing the "m" on your keyboard.
Pictured below are the 6 different main maps in Champions Online.
When a mission is obtained from a Contact, a green shaded oval or circle will appear on both the main map and Min-Map. The green area is the general location of the mission objective with the objective somewhere in the area (most likely in the middle). On either the main map or mini-map, hovering over the area with the mouse will display the mission associated with it.
Contacts can be marked on the maps with a different icon depending on what type of mission they have, or do not have. The markers below commonly indicate the type of contact or the mission status for that contact.
|Contact with a repeatable mission|
|Contact with a mission|
|Contact with a low level mission|
|Return to a contact|
|On a mission for a contact|
|Contact with dialogue|
|Contact with information|
Primary Article: Neighborhoods
The 6 main maps are separated into neighborhoods. The neighborhood boundaries are loosely defined and when you travel from one to the next, a message will appear across the screen. The neighborhood name also appears at the top of the Mini-Map.
Primary Article: Landmarks
|All the maps have two different types of markers, either a green flag, or a circular icon. Hovering over either will reveal the name of the landmark. It is important to note that the Desert is the only Location that has circular icons that indicate a Neighborhood.|
There are a few other map markers worth mentioning:
|Arms Skill Objects||Mysticism Skill Objects|
|Science Skill Objects||Crafting Specialization Store|
|The Champions Jet||Travel Point|
Primary Article: Map Coordinates
Every spot on the map has a unique coordinate that consists of an X, Y and Z. X indicates the spot on an east/west axis, while Y indicates the spot on a north/south axis and Z indicates the height in regard to ground level. Coordinates can be accessed at any time by typing /loc into the chat box window.
